Happy New Year, friends! We hope you’ve come to expect first-class customer service and appliance repair, from Guinco. We enjoy sharing appliance maintenance, repair, and money-saving tips, but thought we’d offer up something a little different this time. Like many of you, we love to go out and experience what Fort Worth and the surrounding areas have to offer. From a fantastic music scene, local chefs offering up incredible bites, choice of multiple museums, sporting events of every kind, West 7th, Sundance Square and of course the Fort Worth Stockyards, there’s simply no other place we’d rather call home. So with all the Forth Worth fun in mind, let’s chat about one of the most anticipated events of the year!
There’s not many things that say Fort Worth like the rodeo. If you haven’t been in a while, now is the time to go. You can go to the rodeo at the Stockyards any weekend you want, but that pales in comparison to the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo, held at Will Rogers Memorial Center. This 23-day event kicked off on January 16, but you still have until February 6 to get in on the excitement. There’s something different going on just about every day, so be sure to check the schedule and plan accordingly. There are several events that only happen once, so when they’re gone, they’re gone.
So, what all is there to do? The list of attractions is seemingly endless. There’s livestock shows, live music, some really good food (indulge a little…or a lot), a carnival, “Moo-seums,” interactive exhibits for the kids, and of course, RODEO! With a general admission ticket, you get entry to all livestock events, educational exhibits, commercial attractions, and the carnival. Rodeo tickets can be purchased separately. The World’s Original Indoor Rodeo® is featured on several days throughout the 23-day extravaganza, but there are a few special events going on as well, which are: Mustang Magic, Best of the West Invitational Ranch Rodeo, Best of Mexico Celebración, Cowboys of Color Rodeo, Bull’s Night Out-PRCA Extreme Bull Riding, Fort Worth Super ShootOut®, and Mustang Magic (sold out). We personally have been to the ShootOut, and it is a perfect offering of the top, popular events with many teams to root for.
Let’s talk food for a minute! There are lots of good eats to be found, but there are a couple of pop up restaurants specifically for this event. Reata at the Rodeo is open daily from 11:30 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. We strongly recommend calling them at 817-336-5766 to make reservations as this is a very popular dining spot and fills up quickly. La Espuela Mexican Cantina is also open daily from 11:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. Both offer wonderful menus and are a great spots for dining before the rodeo. A permanent addition to the area and terrific place to grab a bite during the FWSSR, right across the street Montgomery, is the newly opened Taco Heads! Most of you will recognize them from their vastly popular food truck found down off West 7th. Lots of good eats to be had. Be sure to check them out!
General Admission tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for children (6-16), and FREE for kids 5 and under. This includes all-day access (minus rodeo), but there are some promotion days to save you money as well. Thursday, January 28, wear any TCU apparel and you’ll get in for free, plus you’ll have the option to purchase rodeo tickets for just $10. If you’re a member of The Fort Worth Museum of Science and History, The Cattle Raisers Museum, or the National Cowgirl Museum and Hall of Fame, you will get FREE access to the Stock Show Grounds. Monday, February 1, is Military Day, so present your military ID (current or retired), and you’ll get FREE rodeo tickets (2 p.m. or 7:30 p.m. shows) for you and your immediate family!
