Way back on February 2nd, Punxsutawney Phil indicated we’re in for an early Spring. We live in north Texas, y’all. Spring sprung up last Wednesday, a couple of hours the Friday before that, a couple day stretch back in late February. Yeah….. but! It should be here to stay for the brief time allotted to our infamously toasty temp state any time now! And along with all the green trees, flowers, birds, bees, leprechauns, baskets of eggs and bunnies are some really cool things to see and do right here in Fort Worth!
Let’s start with our favorite holiday of the year showcasing green-hued adult beverages and infamous pots of gold… St Patrick’s Day! This year, the Fort Worth Stockyards offers up a special celebration on March 16. At Cowtown goes Green, you’ll find shootouts, cattle drives, tunes both Irish and Western, and beer. Green beer. Lots of it! Slainte!
A new, really cool event this year at the Fort Worth Botanical Gardens is The Lanterns in the Garden, running now through May 2nd. Showcasing the ancient Chinese tradition, you will find more than 20 sets of lanterns crafted from silk, wire and steel. Absolutely gorgeous and on our Must See list before leaving in May. Don’t miss the chance to see this rare event.
One of our annual favorites is the Fort Worth Food and Wine Festival. With 6 events spread out over the week of April 4-7, this festival is designed for the 21 and older crowd as it showcases wine, spirits & brews, along with many a delightful culinary offering to tickle your taste buds. Check out this link for details of the events, along with ticket information. Hurry! We got ours and they’re going fast.
Another fantastic yearly offering is the Main Street Fort Worth Arts Festival, April 11-14. Downtown Fort Worth streets will be filled with art, food options galore, art, three stages of music, art, fun and ART! Eighteen blocks worth. Seriously, that’s a lot of good time right there just waiting for you to show up… for FREE. Here’s more detailed info if you are so inclined.
Drum roll please! Opening up in Fort Worth’s Trinity Park on April 15th is DreamPark! The current playground will be completely renovated with a new concept that will cover over 57,000 square feet of fun! Designed to be all inclusive, this park will be fully accessible for all ages and disabilities. Looking at the design in the link below, this new playground will be an absolute jewel in the middle of our beautiful city! Take a peek here at this gloriousness, and get ready to have some fun in the sun in Trinity Park.
Here in the Fort, the beginning of May is heralded by Mayfest in our fair Trinity Park, May 2-5, come rain or shine (for real, just ask the locals)! You will enjoy four days filled with art, food, music (you may notice a theme here in Fort Worth) and the ever popular carnival rides, and So. Much. More!! Check it.
Alright, we’ve given you a fair start in getting out and enjoying the fresh Spring air this year! If you find yourself with time to kill in between these events, some of the local favorites are (in absolutely particular order except for the path my brain took driving around my mental map): One of the top zoos in the South…. The Fort Worth Zoo with the brand new Safari Splash (most excellent for those hot summer days), our spectacular Water Gardens (seriously, you’ve have to go visit this marvel, with your camera), the ultimate Texan experience at the Fort Worth Stockyards, see a musical or show at Bass Hall, and never forget Sundance Square filled with some of our top restaurants, shops and the famous jetted fountain! More things to do? How about some of our modes of relaxation transportation! Hop on Molly the Trolly and she’ll run you around downtown Fort Worth so you can see all the fun you should be out having. You can also zip around on a laughter filled Segway Tour (I believe we have a couple of options here, and if WE can do it, you can do it), show yourself around on a little Electric Bike Self Guided Tour, or get your not so serious pedal on (adult beverage in hand) with our Cowtown Cycle Party!
If you’re not from Fort Worth, well we just gave you a very small taste of several good reasons out of many to get yourself here and join in some springtime joy. So get out there, have a great time and enjoy our Blue Zones designated city (Look it up, it’s a thing. And a cool one we are quite proud.), you can thank us later when we see you out at any of these events. We’ll be there!
