Baby, It’s Cold Outside!

Baby, It’s Cold Outside!

In the chilly months of winter, it is important to pay some attention to our home appliances to ensure that they get through these upcoming months in good working order. Homeowners often don’t spend much time thinking about their appliances unless there is a problem, or one completely stops working. Taking the time and following these tips to keep your appliances in good condition will help extend the life and improve the efficiency of your appliances.

Here are some tips for getting your appliances ready for Fall / Winter:

Safeguard Your Dryer

  • Problem: Dryer fires are more common in winter due to increased use and dry air.
  • Solution: Clean those vents! Seriously, that lint build-up is a fire hazard. And while you’re at it, make sure there are no critter entry points. Nobody wants a squirrel living in their dryer.

Maintain Your Oven

  • Problem: Your cookies are coming out burnt. Again.
  • Solution: Get that thermostat checked. Because nobody wants to ruin a perfectly good batch of yummy winter cookies.

Refrigerator Tips

  • Problem: Your outdoor fridge is, well, not fridging.
  • Solution: Unplug that sucker. It’s not meant for the Arctic tundra. And while you’re at it, give your indoor fridge a little TLC. Clean those coils and maybe even call in a professional for a tune-up.

Look, we know we’re not supposed to encourage this, but if you are having multiple issues or rust or not up to date with modern technology… well, sometimes the best solution is to just buy a new appliance.

Taking care of your appliances is important. Not only will it help to keep your appliances running smoothly, but it will also save you money in the long run.

So, there you have it… A quick guide to winterizing your home appliances!
