Fall-tastic Festivities

Fall-tastic Festivities

Okay, folks, let’s talk about fall. Aside from all the culinary glory now happening in your kitchens, it is that magical time of year when the leaves turn from “green” to “what just happened to my yard?!”. It’s also filled with the harvest moon, shorter days, patio weather (a luxury here in Texas) and pumpkin spice everything!

We’re sure you’ve heard of Halloween and Thanksgiving, right? Well, guess what? DFW is about to blow those holidays out of the water with a lineup of fall festivals that will get even the Stoogiest among us into the proper spirit!

First up, we have the State Fair of Texas in Dallas (see our September blog). This is basically a giant carnival where you can eat fried food until your arteries scream. But hey, it’s all in the name of tradition. Just remember to pace yourself, or you might end up looking like a walking Thanksgiving dinner.

Next on the list is Autumn at Dallas Arboretum (Sept 21 – Nov 3). This is a magical wonderland covered in lights and there’s a giant pumpkin house! It’s basically a grown-up version of Disneyland, but without the annoying crowds and overpriced souvenirs. This year’s theme is “It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown” for the Peanuts fans out there.

Fort Worth Botanical Gardens celebrates their gorgeous annual Japanese Festive (Nov 2-3) which will include food vendors, Taiko drummers, art exhibitions and tea ceremonies. A must see, beautiful way to spend an Autumn weekend!

Pumpkin Patches are all the fall rage! Here are just a few we found that are out and about this year… Mainstay Farm in Cleburne (Now – Nov 3) has a Ferris Wheel, food, farm animals and… wait for it… pumpkins galore! Next up is Pumpkin Nights at Howell Family Farms in Arlington with an interactive pumpkin patch, a walk-through pumpkin tunnel, and over 5,000 hand-carved pumpkins. And don’t forget Pumpkinfest in Grapevine (Oct 4-Oct 20) with the traditional pumpkin patch, singing pumpkins and Halloween themed hike. It’s fall and pumpkins are the name of the game, people! Get out there and get yours!

The annual, ever growing and popular ArtsGoggle on Magnolia Avenue in Fort Worth (Oct 19) is 18 city blocks of more than 900 visual artists, three large food courts, musical performances in over 25 venues, as well as all along the street, showcasing many locally owned and operated businesses. If you’ve never been, get yourself over there!

For the beer lovers amongst us, there will be Oktoberfests galore to choose from! Granbury, Southlake, Grapevine, Frisco (and many more cities) will be hoisting German beer, games, all that glorious food and dancing. Break out the lederhosen, hit those beer tents and indulge!

There you have it. A small sampling of all the amazing fall festivals and events going on in DFW. Get out there and enjoy the season before it’s gone. And remember, if after a long day of pumpkin hunting and beer hoisting, you get home and find something amiss amongst your kitchen appliances… give us a call here at Guinco Service at 817-568-2866 or hit us up on our website at www.guinco.com and we will put everything back to rights for your Autumn enjoyment!
